"I'll do it my way, thanks!" - Open, honest, and opinionated

There have been a few occasions on this blog that I have let loose and said exactly what I mean - no holds barred. Most of the time I follow my In-Real-Life standard of "Have your opinions, but keep them close to your chest". It's not that I don't believe whole-heartedly in my opinions and standards. I just know how uncomfortable I get when people give me the what-for on their opinions, and I either don't care, or don't agree. I do that smile, nod, and "uh huh" thing.

But it occurred to me today that it's high time I started saying what I truly feel, think, and believe to be true. Over the next few weeks I'm going to start a series on "I'll do it my way, thanks" posts. I will endeavor to make myself understood, without being rude or against other options. But, this is what I think! And if you don't agree, that's fine. I just want to shed some light on a few subjects.

I feel that very often there are subjects that have fallen into "It's your decision" ... but the status quo has made the not-so-popular decisions into "weirdness". I probably fall into the weirdness territory more than most of my friends do. That's fine with me, it's the path I've chosen. So hang tight... I'll be letting loose!

Oh, and if you have a subject you've noticed I have an opinion on, or think I might have an opinion on, drop me a comment and ask. I might add it to the list, or it may already be on my list of things to talk about.

  3. Just curious about your stance on epidurals. I had one with the first and didn't with the second. The second was a much preferable experience. I try to encourage friends to "just try hanging on a little longer," but it seems doctors and laboring mamas just assume this will be a part of their birth.

I love reading your blog and watching your precious family grow.

  4. Oh this does sound interesting!!!
Hope your baby shower was fun. I was really dissappointed I couldn't make it. I would have left the kids with mum & dad but they were going out for the arvo.
Anyway - I'm sure we will see pictures soon!!!

  8. I wonder your opinion on having a glass of wine during the second and third trimesters? I am pregnant, due in August(16 weeks tomorrow) and a babyfit member as you are. I ended up starting a 4 page, 65 posts(so far) debate on this issue. Its gotton ugly and even though I started it I have stayed away since. To me its a personal choice between you and your Doctor. I totally respect the women who choose not to have the glass of wine and also dont feel the women who do need to be cruicified and told horror stories of FAS childre.
Oops, my opinion leaked out of me and I know you dont care, sorry! Anyway I just cant believe that I started this on babyfit. Pregnant women can be brutally opinionated.

  11. This is a great idea- I usually try to be so sensitive about not offending others in my blog posts, that I wonder if I'm getting my point across.

I may borrow this at some point, but if I do, I'll make sure to hat tip you. :)

  12. Popping the popcorn and putting my feet up!!! I am an opinionated girl myself! I can't wait to hear where you are coming from. Their is way to many people doing the status quo way and we could all use a lesson in how to be articulate but polite when disagreeing! I can't WAIT to read your series!!!!!

  14. Excited to see what you have to say.

I've always been curious about how Matt feels about your blogging about your life. From what you've said, he seems to be a really private person, how does having everything out there online affect him?

  16. I can't wait to read the posts!! The older my kids get, the more I realize that I'm falling into the "weird" section...not that it's far off from what I have always been. But I honestly never thought I'd be raising my kids the way I am today. But it's the only way that feels right to me, ya know?!?
