My Pretty Girl

I told you she was grown up! She picks out her own shoes, puts them on (depending of the level of difficulty) and has her own version of "names" for her shoes. Some are simply, "Gumboots", "Udder boots" (Other), "Blue Thoos", and "Pink Thoos" (which unfortunately describes everything else she owns!)

We took her to the park last weekend. She obviously picked out her own shoes since I would never, and have never picked those shoes. I will only ever pick the cute shoes. Not those blue monstrosities. It was a beautiful, sort-warm day, and she was dying to play on the slide. Truth be told, it was the second trip to the park, because the first time she decided she needed to pee all of 30 seconds after arriving at the park (in the middle of my early Sunday morning photo shooting). *dirty look*

We live 2 houses from the park. When we moved here it was exciting! A park! A park that I know I can get to without getting lost! A park close enough that I won't use 87 excuses not to go to since it's too far away, too cold, too far away, too far away... okay. So maybe 2 excuses.

I also thought that I wanted to keep Oceana in blissfully unaware ignorance of the nearness of this same park. It was fine for me to know I could get there in the blink of an eye. It was not fine to get asked 30x a day to be taken to the park.

Well too bad you Dumb Mommy. You've been outsmarted. Unless I had intended to blindfold her everytime she went to park, I never had a chance.

And every day we hear, "Wanna go dah SLIIIIIDE!" And then it repeats. Again and again and again and again.

No sooner do we arrive (for the 2nd time) but this girl decides that she had mulch in her shoes. I'm quite happy for her to stop and adjust her horrendous blue crocks shoes, dump out the mulch, and put them back on. It is fine when she wears those horrendous blue crocks that often are paired with beautiful dresses on Sunday morning because I refuse to fight about it shoes, because she can do it herself. When she wears boots and needs help with all of it, I say "Walk on the mulch. You're fine!"

Ugh. I hate that I say that a lot, "You're fine!" Matt pointed out to me one day, "Obviously she's not fine, since she's telling you she's not!" *Boo* :)

And it's also helpful for her to take care of it herself. Then I get the photograph it, instead of putting down the camera to help her out.

  1. I believe her auntie (ahem) bought those horrendous blue shoes for her. she saw them on the rack and HAD to have them... good girl I say, and they were an entire $1.47. I'm proud to be encouraging the newest little bargain hunter

  2. Those sweet little blue crocs are not horrendous... my black ugly ones are. Miss Oceana looks adorable in them. I totally get the Sunday thing (dresses go with dress up shoes... but I also understand not wanting to fight about it).

As far as the park goes...
that would drive me crazy. But since my kids grew up without a park even in the town... enjoy the moments cause she will grow up way too fast.

  5. Oh Susie you are too funny girl! We have the same issues with Crocks, parks & pee!! Must be a two year old thing huh?!?! Either that or they have their own blog and talk about how funny their mommy's faces look when the pee thing happens right when we just got there! THOSE PRECIOUS LITTLE TURKEY'S (said with smooshy love) THEIR DOIN IT ON PURPOSE!! I'm sure of it!! It's funny to imagine what their blogs would look like! (all full of goofy mommy & daddy stories - from their perspective)
    LOVE YOU GUYS!!! :)

  6. Well, as a mommy I can attest to the fact that they always want to wear what you do not want them to wear! My boys have "camo" crocks & I HATE them but they love them. It's just one of those battles that are easier to let go of than to fight!

  7. I hate crocs. I've hated them from the moment the apeared on the shelves. I refuse to buy them.

I spoke with Ben Hartig yesterday (his little sister is my babysitter). I told him you were pregnant, and he was so pleased! He also said it was really strange to hear it from me, *grin* him being the one who was down there and all. We spoke about Joshua, and it was really nice to talk to someone who really knows who I'm talking about, and what our experiences with Joshua were and when his cele broke, especially. He said that it was really hard, but beautiful at his funeral.

    Love you girlie.

  10. Ohhh Misty has purple Crocs. I like them all right, but she INSISTS on wearing them with outfits that are totally inappropriate. *sigh* I refuse to fight about it, though, like you... At least she can put them on herself!

  11. She's a doll!

I'm looking for some good shoes for Jericho right now. At one is it good or bad if they can take them on and off themselves?

Wondering if you could post the homemade play dough sometime.

  12. I simply refuse to buy those darn Crocs too. Our daughter's ortho. Dr. said that a lot of people buy them for their kids to wear over their leg/foot braces because they tend to be wide and a wee bit stretchy. Nice to know. . still not gonna do it.. .LOL! As far as Croc-type shoes go, Oceana's blue one are a bit more stylish than most since they're a little more 'Mary Jane' style. She's as beautiful as ever!

    Keep us updated!

Ps. I was thinking of doing an upside down tuxedo hat as the gift box...still working out the kinks. Suggestions?

  15. We're back!! And we had a wonderful time, lovely weather. I love these pics of Oceana. She indeed looks very grown up. Good to hear that all is well with Sams baby #3. Give yourself a break on the body. After all you've been pregnant in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and now 2009! Oh goodness, how wonderful! But no time for getting back into shape...except those couple weeks when you fit into your skinny jeans before Joshua. Hope you enjoy this pregnancy...we all are. When I made the news known to some close friends in church, I got a standing ovation when I arrived on Sunday! Talk about excited people. Everyone wishes you well.
