Toilet training update

A few things I have learned.

* As soon as the diaper is back on, she the child forgets everything she's learned.

*Telling Oceana to sit on the toilet within a 1/2 hour of getting up will result in a meltdown.
(in all fairness, you get a meltdown from me for the first 1/2 hour I'm awake if you demand anything of me, so I don't wonder where this came from.)

*If she wakes up wanting to "go potty", she's already taken care of the deed.

*She actually is telling the truth when she says, "Aw' done!"

*Oceana has a hard time figuring out what the #2 sensation is. She may run to the toilet a few times before she sorts it out.

*Do not let a 2 year old go with "I wipe myse'f". It doesn't end well for the undies or the floor.

*She can hold it for 3 hours. We are doing dry naps with a towel and cloth diapers layered underneath her. (It's raining, so I'm conserving the bedding!)

*I'm so glad we're only doing diapers at night.

*If your child is toilet training, or you WANT them to toilet train, hang in there. They can't be in diapers forever. That's the only consolation prize. It's like being 38 weeks pregnant, "You can't stay in there forever Kid!"

  1. We're potty training, too...so I can relate! My girl does pretty good with staying dry - pooping on the potty, NOT SO MUCH.

Oh well, she won't go to college in training pants. Neither will Oce.

  2. Try getting some dollar store stickers of her favorite charactors (Disney princess') and let her stick them to the toilet seat & put clear nail polish on them so they don't come off presto you have her favorite place to pee. My sister in law did this with a child's toilet seat she was toilet trained within 2 days. Daughter wanted to take her Dorah seat with her everywhere. Mom didn't care she was trained.

  4. I would try potty training rewards. This worked great for our son. He loved pushing the audio push button and hearing he is a Big Boy and opening a door to find a chocolate surprise. He really became involved. He was peeing and pooping in his potty within a week. I know every child is different, but have a look and see what you think. www.pottytrainingrewards.com

  5. I'm going through this right now, except with a 2 1/2 year old BOY!! He gets the #1 thing but not the #2 thing....Why can't it be the other way around, ha! Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I'm pulling for you & I sympathize with you!!

  6. I love the comment about about putting the reward stickers right on the toilet seat. It's a unique twist to the standard sticker chart. I'm going to put this suggestion on my blog about potty training at http://thepottybootcamp.blogspot.com.

Also, for parents that are ready to potty train but haven't decided on a method, here is a link to a list of books on Amazon that teach parents how to toilet train:

Have fun in your potty training adventures!

  7. We started potty training last week. I can totally agree with a lot of what you've said. Seth tries to watch himself poop though and I have to keep telling him not to touch!!

Today was the best though...he came in (from playing outside) and told us poop. Needless to say he pooped outside. I guess he thought if the dog does it, it must be okay for him to do!

  8. This made me laugh! It brings back so many fond memories :) So glad I'm done with the potty training...At least for now. 2 years from now I'll be starting all over again with #3. Yay!

  9. Potty training is such a lesson in patience AND speed - at the same time. Waaaaiting for them to "go" and rushing to the bathroom when they HAVE TO GO! right that second.

    Fun times.

I will be one happy woman when I don't have to buy diapers anymore. I may just walk down the aisle and laugh at the poor schleps that still have to buy them... Or not. Because that would be mean. But I may walk down the aisle, pick out some diapers, and then put them back. Just 'cause I can!

    I'm sick. I know.

    Congrats on VICTORY!
