2 years, 4 months, 1 week

Thats how long we've been doing that stupid diapering thing in our house. Blah. Diapers are so last year. I'm over that fad.

And because we're over the fad, and because finally our life is semi-stable (no trips in the near future, minus a day trip later this week) we're into Potty Training territory.

Oce's had a potty of her own for over 6 months now, and occasionally the need to use it strikes her. But not often enough. And I certainly wasn't pushing, encouraging, or planning around it. This last weekend I decided "It is time". So bright and early Monday morning (okay, 9am, because I forgot until then) we started out on the potty. And would you believe it, first time around we managed to leave a present in the toilet.

"Luck," is what I chalked that one up to.

She insisted on her pink Cinderella undies, and we went about our morning. I tried taking her to the toilet once because I thought she'd gone in her pants, but that proved to be a bit of a tantrum, so I let it go. Apparently she didn't "want" to go. A bit later I went outside to hang up laundry and I heard those awful words. "Mommy, I poo." Grrrr. I know she only says that when she's already done the deed. I came inside to a naked child and undies flung on the floor. I assumed I needed to look around for a wet spot, or worse...

As I took her to the bathroom, telling her she just had to sit for minute, I discovered - to my immense glee - she'd gone on her own! WOOT! Okay, so maybe she gets it.

Not an hour later I hear, "Mommy, I poo". Eek. What's that mean? We run off to the toilet and we did the "Big One".

No way. It can't be this easy. Because I remember trying this on other occasions, and it just wasn't flying.

Hmm. I guess it's like everyone keeps saying, "When she's ready...."

And I know it's cold outside, but jeans take too long to be yanking off - so we're going Undies-only around here today.

I'm sure the glee won't last, but I had to share while I was excited. However, my apologies if my child's toilet training isn't what you were hoping to read today. Ha! It's my life. Get over it.

We mothers love the "simple" things in life. :)

  8. That's great! I don't have children of my own yet, but a lot of people I know with kids let their kids run around naked...they say it helps because the kids actually want to go to the potty then! Just an idea. :) haha

  10. That's exactly how it went with my son (but add a whole extra YEAR). We tried and tried, kept the potty out, talked about how big people use the potty, yada yada. I was never really formal with it because we had too much else going on in our lives. Then I just got tired of it. I knew he could do it, he was just being lazy. So I told him to pick his favorite diapers for that day (we use cloth) and that the next day he'd be in underwear.

    And it worked.

    That was it!

We only had two poo accidents (one willful, one really an accident) and two or three pee accidents. He even makes it overnight now. It's awesome!

So YAY to our big kids! Waiting really does have it's privileges =)

  17. I have now potty trained a boy and a girl and the girl was much easier by far. Don't be discouraged however if after a couple of days going "poo" in the potty she decides she doesn't want to do that anymore. For some reason my two developed a fear of going "poo" on the potty even after doing it for three days and then didn't do it again for months (although they continued to pee in the potty the whole time). They would tell me when they needed a pull up to go poo then one day a few months later it was suddenly okay to go on the potty again...go figure! Good luck and keep cheering her on for the little victories :)

  18. It went the same with my daughter. It went bad the first couple of times, but our last attempt went smooth sailing. Dresses worked for us after I got sick of a pantless child. Also, if you put panty liners in their underwear, you don't have to wash lots of undies for quarter sized accidents.

  21. yay!!! hope it keeps going well from here... I know the joys of potty training and if this is how easy it is going to be for you I am sooooo Jealous.lol.

  22. Congrats to you... both!

And it can be that easy. I had tried a couple times with my three year old and he didnt seem to interested and then a couple months before his third birthday he showed interest and was only in pullups for a week. One week with some accidents and then smooth, diaper free sailing from there.

Bribery... I'm not afraid to admit it!

  25. Can Oceana give my Puckey lessons? Puckey will be 3 on Aug 25th, and has NO interest in the potty. At ALL. Even with the thought of Disney Princess AND Elmo AND Curious George undies to wear once she goes on the potty.

And to think I still have The Jib to go through this with...*sigh*

GOOD JOB ON THE POTTY OCE!!

  26. Susie-

That is AWESOME! Wow... she seems to have gotten it fast! Deacon has been in undies for 10 months now and we're still reminding him HOURLY that he needs to go, but otherwise not to bad. I'm glad she's making it somewhat easy on you mama!

    Love lots & praying,
    Kenzie
