A picture is worth a thousand words

Maybe this picture doesn't mean a lot to you.

But it means so much to me! We rent a three-story duplex; the girls have the finished attic as their bedroom and toy room. I spend the majority of my day on the first floor, and because the girls love me (and I'm not complaining about that) they spend the majority of their day down here. It had come to the point that they were not playing with their toys in a day - zero time spent in their room - because they won't play without me in the room. If I'm on the 2nd floor putting away laundry or cleaning the bathroom, they insist on standing there as I do.

I love my girls. But they needed to learn to play. And play without me directing every moment.

I've been thinking about utilizing out screened-in porch as a play room for a while now. But today I finally went to work.

And it worked.

  1. Brilliant! My daughter is the same way...refuses to play without me in the room with her. I hope it helps you to get more done.

  2. That's awesome Sus! I need a playroom for Sophie so bad! She's taking over our living room right now :/ Not the most ideal situation. My GF stopped by the other night and made a comment, which really got me. It wasn't meant to be snarky, but it irked me, because she was right. We have a spare room we keep the dog in, I really need to clean it, paint it and take it back! A little 14 lb dog doesn't need a whole room!

  3. I totally get it. I have 3 shadows. I have to chase them off, sometimes. This house is better because it's so open - they feel like they are still with me but we aren't on top of each other :)
