Events Coordinator

I'm the Events Coordinator at Marine Reach Ministries - Communications Coordinator too, but right now I'd like to talk about Events. I love events. Communications makes me shudder. I was not trained in Communications - I have (by coincidence and life experience) been trained for Events. Press releases, publications, and brochures - while interesting and creative S.T.R.E.S.S. me out.

But Events I get a kick out. Events doesn't scare me (except when I put too much on my plate). I think people make too much fuss about events and their stress level - but that's probably because I'm naturally good at events. I'm fairly organised, but I'm flexible enough to handle all the stuff that changes on the day.

All that said....

The ship returns to our harbor this Saturday (23/8), and I'm planning the welcome. It's gonna be great, I was worried because a lot (read everything) fell through. But with a bit of help from friends it's going to be great. I'll be sure to show you pictures next week.

Do you remember when I wrote this?

When I got to Samoa the first thing my dad asked me was what it was about. My mom asked too. And I had to respond, "I'm not at liberty to discuss it." I think I annoyed them. Oops. But I couldn't very well tell them the secret.

I'm planning them a 25th anniversary celebration - a surprise one - for Sunday (24/8). Now do you see why I'm stressed out? Because I have two major events with the invite list over one hundred for each - two days in a row.

My parents anniversary was June 25th, when they were out in a remote Fiji Island. They took a walk on their anniversary and got a card. I was depressed for them. They have plans to go away a few weeks after they get back, but it may well turn into a work trip. So I wanted to be sure they got thoroughly celebrated.

I'll let you know Monday or Tuesday or maybe even Wednesday how it all turned out. Depends on if I'm alive one of those days.

  1. My stomach hurts just reading this... I am not gifted in the leader portion of "events." I am gifted in the helper portion. I love to help! Wish I could - I don't mind being told what to do :) I hope both events go amazing and smooth.

Oh, and that you knock your parents socks off with the surprise!!!

  6. Susie,

Your surprise celebration for your parents is going to bless them so much. We just celebrated our 40th on the 10th as my washing machine died a violent death in the garage. We just laughed about it. I LOVE the new blog design, it is so great!!! Did you do this yourself? It is perfect. Have a wonderful weekend as you bless your parents. You are such a good daughter.

    Love, Laurie in Ca.
