I've noticed - over time - that you [Blogland] are sort of confused when it comes to me and why I do what I do. In respects to finances that is. And I thought that since you all read so much about me, you just might enjoy reading about what I do with my money, and why I do it. And perhaps, how in the world we make do on what we do. I find it funny at times when we talk to people [in real life] and they find out a bit about how much we spend a week/month/year on something/everything they get this glazzed look and smile halfway. Inside I'm sure they're saying, "GEEZ! What's wrong with you? Go home! Get a job! Buy stuff!" But this is the way we have to live - at the moment - to do what we want to do.

So with that said, I'd like to leave the floor open. If something has you confused, curious, or otherwise, please ask. I may refuse to answer some specific questions, like how much we receive a month/year. I won't answer that, so please don't ask. But if you want to know what we spend on groceries, how we eat on that much, and what we eat, feel free to ask. Also, if you're looking for some cheap foods to make, ask away. I can give you a list of things we don't do/buy/find necessary, but that's sort of boring.

Let the bloodbath begin.

On a side note: do any of you wifies out there enjoy car shopping? Coz I don't. Stick a fork in me. I'm done. I've had it up to here (my neck) with car shopping, comparing, and mechanic checking. Bleccch! I wanna buy a car, and have it be over with. But no chance here. My husband is analytical, careful, and cautious (about this thing anyways), so when we DO get a car, it'll be awesome for great value. But in the meantime, if I see another Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, stationwagon, sedan, hatchback, or otherwise, I'll lose it. As I keep saying [and no, I'm not saying I am pregnant, just thinking of owning the car for a long time] "It's gotta fit two carseats and a stroller in it, and have 4 doors. (I refuse to crawl in the buckled kids). That's all I care about!"

  2. I hope you don't actually feel like you have to justify your financial situation to anyone!

I know how you do what you do - by God's grace!! He supplies beautiful "clothes" for the flowers in the field, and food for the birds in the sky, and how much more important to Him are we?? Yeah, I know how you do it...and it's pretty awesome to witness!

    Have a beautiful day (night)...

  3. Hey Susie! I think I understand the basics of mission living, as a former YWAMer, but I would love to hear some inexpensive recipes! Do you have any good Vegetarian ones? Food prices have gone up a lot recently here in the States & I'm always in need of easy, tasty ideas that fit our budget. What is your basic grocery list... things you get almost every week or always keep on hand? Thank you so much!
    Thinking of you,
    Jennie

  4. I wanted to tell you that I sometimes wonder how we "do it," too. We all make sacrifices. Some things that are important to others aren't important to us in the least.

AND we feel we're being obedient to God, and we think God is honoring that. (We don't work in full-time ministry, by the way. Obedience is obedience, as you know.)

I don't enjoy the car shopping either. Ugh...

  5. Hi... I read your whole story about Joshua... I commented the other day but wasn't logged in. I hope you don't mind if I subscribe to you, so I can find my way back here. :-)

  6. Wow...you're a bit post crazy today...but I love it!! My husband and I are on a sort of "mission" right now as well. Albeit not as important as yours, but we moved from OHio to Houston for him to be the manager of a Lifeway CHristian bookstore. We're away from EVERYTHING we know and we're struggling financially because of cost of living differences and gas prices and keeping our house air conditioned (because its almost 100 here every day). Im looking at our food to see places to save. Right now it looks like we're spending between 300-500 but that includes formula and diapers. Any suggestions? Meat over here just seems so expensive, as well as produce. I've been doing weight watchers and it seems the "diet" or healthy food is so expensive. I'll take whatever you got!
